In addition, some students are taking our International Foundation programmes in Business and Engineering.

As part of the Alpha Plus Group, Abbey College Manchester aims to maintain a 'gold standard' of educational quality. Classes are small, enabling teachers to provide a supportive and professional educational experience, specifically tailored towards the individual student.

The College offers well-equipped, modern teaching accommodation and students are encouraged to take advantage of the resources the city has to offer to help with learning and personal development.

The original modern city, Manchester is renowned for its outstanding commercial, cultural, creative and sporting achievements.

Courses

A variety of courses to suit the needs of individual students are now offered: Two year A-level courses, 18 month A-level courses, One year intensive A-level courses, September to January intensive A-Level retakes, International Foundation programmes in Business and Engineering, and GCSE programmes.

The college moved to its current city centre location four years ago to cope with increased numbers. The building is modern, well-equipped and designed to provide the highest standards of accommodation and resources for staff and students.

Students

Students are attracted to the College by its unique mix of high quality teaching, personal support and its flexible approach.

"Students have a very positive attitude to learning. Their behaviour in lessons is exemplary. They settle diligently to their work and are highly motivated. They are enthusiastic, keen to do well and eager to be challenged. Willing to contribute and prepared to think for themselves, they readily ask and answer questions. They cooperate very well in group work and listen appreciatively to each other's views.

The students contribute to the society of the college by the respectful way in which they treat each other, the staff and the facilities. The college is a model of harmonious inter-racial relations".

Independent Schools Inspection Report (ISI, February 2011)

75% of our students come from Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and West Yorkshire. Some do travel in each day from further afield.

The college also has Highly Trusted Sponsor status with the UK Border Agency. This enables us to offer our courses to international students.

We currently have around 65 students from countries such as Nigeria, Angola, Australia, United States, Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, France and Germany.

The mix of domestic and international students creates a very cosmopolitan atmosphere and the relative smallness of the college promotes a strong community feeling among students and staff.
