 Testing Your English Level

 Class Levels

All students enrolled to study English at Leeds Languages receive a level test to find out

which class is suitable for them. We run the following levels:

  • Beginners
  • Elementary
  • Pre-intermediate
  • Intermediate
  • Upper Intermediate
  • Advanced

Online Testing

If you are applying to the school from overseas and require a student visa we will ask you to complete an online level test. These are administered on behalf of Leeds Languages by the Oxford University Press Online Testing System.

When we have received and accepted your completed application form we will contact you with details of how to take the test. You will need access to a computer with a good internet connection and speakers or, preferably, headphones. The test takes approximately 30-40 minutes.

Your results are automatically sent to us for use in the application process. Through this method we are able to inform the visa authorities on your suitability for the course we are offering you, thus improving your chances of making a successful visa application.

Testing You In School

Students who have not already taken an online test will be tested on their first day in school. The test taken is similar to the Oxford Online Placement Test, In addition, all students receive an induction session with our Head of EFL, during which an informal testing of their level of spoken English is made.

Measuring Your Level

The level test we use will help us to place you in the most suitable class. It also gives us a language level which complies with the CEF (Common European Framework). The information provided by your level test may be used by your teachers to understand your areas of weakness and set work which will help to improve these.
